Safelite’s Story

The Safelite Long Island team supports local families through two annual SCO Family of Services programs that closely align with Safelite’s commitment to provide safety, stability, and a sense of belonging to the foster care community: our Holiday Wishlist and Back-to-School initiatives.

The Holiday Wishlist initiative supports families during the holiday season by fulfilling specific gift requests for children and caregivers, helping to ensure they can experience a joyful and meaningful holiday.

The Back-to-School initiative focuses on preparing children for a successful school year by providing essential items such as backpacks, school supplies, and age-appropriate resources.

Safelite supports both initiatives through generous donations, which help us purchase and distribute these much-needed items. Their support plays a vital role in helping us meet the needs of the families we serve during these meaningful times of the year.

Partnering with an organization that so powerfully uplifts communities reflects our shared belief that through fostering change together, everyone can overcome challenges with a clear road ahead.

Brayden’s Story

Meet Brayden — an active, kind, and talented high school student who is thriving through SCO’s Community Habilitation and Respite programs!

With support from his Community Habilitation Specialist, Brayden is building independence every single day. He’s learning to do his own laundry, prepare simple snacks, make purchases, improve his health routines, and is even learning to travel independently using the SCAT bus with support and guidance. His family, friends, and staff are incredibly proud… but most importantly, Brayden is proud of himself.

Brayden has explored so many exciting places with his Community Habilitation Specialist— beaches, museums, fairs, amusement parks, the aquarium — making memories everywhere he goes.

Through the Drop‑In Lounge Respite Program, he’s formed new friendships, found joy in games and activities, and grown more confident socially. With staff support, Brayden and his friends even plan outings together such as bowling, mall trips, lunch dates, and museum visits.

Brayden truly embodies the spirit of A World of Opportunity — discovering new skills, new friendships, and new experiences every day.

Annia Santos

Current Position: Payroll Manager

  • 2018 – Began her career as a Residential Assistant, providing direct support and care to individuals in a residential setting.
  • 2019 – Transitioned into a Recruiter role, leveraging her experience to identify and onboard top talent.
  • 2020 – Took on a leadership role as an Assistant Payroll Manager, ensuring accurate payroll processing and compliance.
  • 2022 – Advanced to Payroll Manager, overseeing payroll operations and streamlining processes for efficiency.

Jessica Larkin

Current Position: Senior QI Specialist

  • 2016 – Started as a Shelters Case Manager, advocating for and supporting individuals in need of housing and social services.
  • 2022 – Moved into a Quality Improvement (QI) Specialist role, focusing on enhancing service delivery and compliance.
  • 2024 – Elevated to Senior QI Specialist, taking on greater responsibility in shaping and implementing quality initiatives.

Chris McGovern

Current Position: Director of Development, Individual & Corporate Giving

  • 2020 – Began his career as a Habilitation Specialist, working hands-on to support individuals in developing life skills.
  • 2022 – Transitioned into operations as a Facilities Coordinator, managing essential infrastructure and logistics.
  • 2024 – Promoted to Assistant Director of Institutional Giving, leveraging his diverse background to support fundraising and donor relations.
  • 2025 – Promoted to Director of Development, Individual & Corporate Giving, leading fundraising efforts with individual and corporate donors.
